At PAWS we work together with the community, to ensure the safety and welfare of Üzümlü’s vulnerable street animals.
OUR HOPES
PAWS Uzümlü/PAWS Uzumlu UK are a small team of volunteers based in both the UK and in village of Uzümlü, Türkiye.
Our vision: For every street animal in Üzümlü to have a safe and healthy life.
Our charitable purpose: We want Üzümlü’s street animals to have the best possible lives, existing peacefully wherever they may be. There is no overnight solution to the challenges we face but we will work tirelessly to ensure their welfare and safety.
OUR CHARITY OBJECTIVES

Vaccinate all street animals against debilitating and deadly diseases, including rabies.

Prevent parasites such as ticks, fleas and worms by administering suitable treatments.

Care for sick, injured, recovering or vulnerable animals in our dog and cat parks through regular volunteer rotas for feeding, monitoring, cleaning and maintenance.

Raise funds for our work through events, campaigns and regular sponsorship appeals to pay for food, water and vet bills.

Grow our organisation and the number of volunteers who support us through awareness and fundraising activities.

Seek permanent, loving homes for as many street animals as possible through regular adoption appeals.

Develop a network of temporary foster homes to ensure availability when needed through appeals and guidance on what this entails.

Limit breeding among street dogs and cats by raising awareness of the importance of neutering and guiding people towards suitable resources.

Develop good relationships with the area’s veterinary practices to ensure good, reasonably priced treatment for the street animals in our care.

Foster amicable relationships with the local authorities in order to protect and monitor the welfare of our street animals.

Support and encourage village residents, both permanent and temporary, to care for street animals living near their properties.
OUR STORY
Established in 2018, Üzümlü Hayvan Bakım Derneği was officially registered as a Charity in Turkey. Charity number 48-017-080.
In 2022 the Charity was taken over by a new board of trustee volunteers who decided to revitalise the charity with a new name and logo. This was when PAWS Uzümlü – Providing Animal Welfare Support was born.
Following the successes and continuous growing need for PAWS Uzümlü's presence within the village of Uzümlü, it became clear we needed to increase our donations to meet the needs of the increasing animals under our care. It was decided we would branch into the UK officially where many of our supporters are. PAWS Uzumlu UK would support in fundraising for PAWS Üzümlü.
On the 22nd August 2024, PAWS Uzumlu UK was registered and established as a UK Charity. Charity number: 1209714 PAWS Uzumlu UK.
OUR CAT AND DOG SANCTUARY PARKS
We run two animal parks – one for dogs and one for cats – which are tucked away in the heart of the forest in Üzümlü.
Our cat and dog parks are managed by our volunteers and provide a place for sick or injured animals to recover, or a haven to shelter those who we know would fail to thrive on the streets.

WHAT ELSE DO WE DO?
For the cats and dogs living on the streets of Üzümlü, our volunteers regularly feed these animals, or ensure they are part of a feeding rota or located with locals or our volunteers who will feed them and look out for their welfare.
We work closely with local vets and other agencies to arrange preventative care such as neutering, regular parasite treatment and vaccinations to protect them against life threatening illnesses that can be picked up off the streets.
If an animal in the village is showing signs of sickness or injury we will ensure a vets visit and cover these costs. We follow strict policies to ensure treatment and spenditure is monitored, it’s fair and consistent and also in the animals best interest when considering their quality.
We regularly receive/identify new dogs in the village of Üzümlü. Many of them pregnant or with their babies, sick or malnourished or un-neutered, previously owned and dumped. PAWS will do their best to fulfill their needs focusing on their health, wellbeing and vulnerability being on the streets.
We also take on the responsibility of helping animals who have been involved in boar attacks, traffic accidents, poisonings or who have been reported as dangerous.

We are funded through donations only.
